Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong is coming to Zimbabwe today for a two-day visit after being invited by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government. He will be the first high-level Chinese official to visit following President Robert Mugabe’s resignation.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said China and Zimbabwe have strong and friendly relations and that their cooperation has “brought real benefits for the people of the two countries.” China congratulated Emmerson Mnangagwa, following his inauguration last week and said it is up to Zimbabweans to choose their government. China has pledged to continue the relationship under the new government.
