Reverend Chivaviro To Perform “Ebenezer” For Mnangagwa At Inauguration

Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro, famous for the hit song “Ebenezer-Tirimunyasha”, has been invited to perform at the inauguration of President-designate Emmerson Mnangagwa at the National Sports Stadium today. Chivaviro who is based in South Africa was ecstatic about the honour and said:

It’s a huge occasion for us, very big indeed, especially as our songs were played throughout this transitional process

It makes us feel that we are also playing a part in the making of a new Zimbabwe. We are honoured.

Anyone who has gone through a tough time can easily relate to the song, so, if Zimbabweans are celebrating as a nation it is the right song for them as well,

Ebenezer means “Thus forth the Lord has taken us” and the song speaks of how God has guided people through turbulent times until they reach the promised land.   The song has been heavily played on State media through the transition period.

Chivaviro is a nephew of the late Shuval Mahofa, who was an ally of Mnangagwa.
