10 things you probably did not know about Auxillia Mnangagwa

Not much is known about Auxillia Mnangagwa in the public domain. Here are ten things you probably did not know about her:

  1. She worked for the Ministry of Manpower and Development in 1981 which was under the supervision of the late Edgar Tekere.
  2. Mnangagwa was a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) until 1997 when she left to undertake her studies in Environment and Tourism at the University of Zimbabwe.
  3. She won her position as Chirumhanzu Zibagwe in a by-election. The seat had been occupied by her husband for 31 years.
  4. Mnangagwa did secretarial studies, Hotel and Tourism Administration in Switzerland and Environment and Tourism at the University of Zimbabwe.
  5. She sued Jason Machaya, Douglas Kanengoni and Kudakwashe Bhasikiti for US$50 million after the trio accused her of vote rigging.
  6. She is Emmerson Mnangagwa’s third wife, and together they have three children, Emmerson (Junior) Sean and Collin.
  7. Her submission to represent Zanu-PF in Mazowe Central was declined by the party’s Mashonaland Central Provincial Coordinating Committee.
  8. Mnangagwa is also known for women empowerment projects such as the establishment of women’s banks in the Midlands areas of Silobela, Zhombe, Kwekwe and Chirumanzu-Zibagwe. In 2013, Mnangagwa launched another women’s bank in Mvuma with the assistance of the Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development Ministry.
  9. She was instrumental in having the site where her husband and Matthew Malowa blew up a Rhodesian steam locomotive in 1964 at Masvingo Railway Station, to be declared as a historical site. 
  10. Mnangagwa was born on March 25, 1963 in Mazowe District in Mashonaland Central. She grew up in Chiweshe near Rosa Business Centre where she attained both primary and secondary education
