Traditional Chiefs Say Mugabe Must Go, Claim They Were Not Consulted On Endorsement

Traditional chiefs have joined the bandwagon of people calling for President Robert Mugabe to step down, despite having endorsed him only a few weeks ago as the 2018 Presidential Candidate for Zanu-PF. The chiefs also said that they support the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) for the military intervention which took power from Mugabe and claimed that some of them were never consulted on the decision to endorse Mugabe’s candidature for the 2018 elections.

Speaking at a solidarity rally at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield yesterday, Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs representative, Chief Ephias Munodawafa Murinye said

We hail the ZDF for the intervention to stop an economic, social and political crisis yanga yakonzerwa nevana vadiki vasina kuona hondo ava.

We hail the ZDF for the intervention to stop an economic, social and political crisis (that had been caused by young people who had not seen or fought in the Second Chimurenga liberation war.)

This development will see us discharging our mandate without fear or coercion. It is our hope that the economy will soon take shape.
