President Robert Mugabe has authorised the full-scale purge of all alleged supporters of former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa from the civil service, parastatals and government. Mnangagwa’s supporters are accused of sabotaging the Zanu-PF programmes to make President Mugabe’s administration look bad so that Mnangagwa could take over. Mnangagwa was sacked on Monday after having served in the government since 1980.
Addressing supporters as a Zanu-PF solidarity March, Mugabe said:
Go and eject them from the party. All his supporters, we do not want people who do not follow the norms of the party. You cannot be bigger than the party, no, no, no!
There are some people who thought since the sun is about to set, they can deviate from the norms of the party. We do not accept such things. It doesn’t matter you have been with the President for so long.
