The Central Investigations Department (CID) is reported to have assembled a crack special unit to look into crimes allegedly committed by former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The unit is reported to be investigating cases of obstruction of justice, corruption, attempted murder and murder. The unit has so far identified four cases in which the former Vice President is implicated and is expected to open other cases against him in the near future.
Some of the cases which the police are looking into include:
- The alleged murder of a woman Mnangagwa was linked to
- The attempted murder of former ZBC broadcaster Godfrey Majonga, who was allegedly forced to jump out of flat by Mnangagwa when it was discovered that Majonga was having an affair with Mnangagwa’s mistress.
- The sponsoring of illegal gold panners in the Kwekwe goldfields
- The violence and murders that took place in the Kwekwe goldfields as rival groups fought for control of concessions.
The members of the special unit are:
Assistant Commissioner Crispen Charumbira who is leading the unit.
Superintendent Nyambo Viera from CID Law and Order
Chief Superintendent Nyaradzai Majachani from CID Property Section and
Chief Superintendent Ngena of CID Law and Order
His rival, Professor Jonathan Moyo has said that Mnangagwa fled the country because he wants to escape justice for the heinous crimes that he committed when he was in power.
