Zimbabwe elected to UNESCO Executive Board

Zimbabwe has been elected to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNSECO) for a four year term beginning 2018.

Zimbabwe got a total of 165 country votes in Electoral group V(a) which had 6 seats to be filled. Zimbabwe would have still gotten a place even if it had the least votes. Other countries in the Group are; Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Zambia. The vote took place during the 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris. Zimbabwe has been part of the board from 1995-1999, 1999 and 2009-2013.

UNESCO’s executive board consists of 58 member countries, who are elected for a four-year mandate, during which they discuss and negotiate key decisions.
