Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa fired, the finer details

Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo announced that Emmerson Mnangagwa has been fired from his Government post as Vice President. Below are the finer details of Mnangagwa’s firing:

1. Mnangagwa remains Zanu-PF’s second secretary

According to the Press Statement issued by Khaya Moyo, Mnangagwa was fired from his position as Vice President of Zimbabwe which means that he remains Zanu-PF’s second secretary. It remains to be seen if he will survive until the party’s extraordinary congress in December.

2. He was dismissed on “5 charges” or reasons

Khaya Moyo mentioned that Mnangagwa was dismissed for disloyalty, disrespect, deceitfulness and unreliability. He was also dismissed for demonstrating little probity in the execution of his duties.

3. 5 out of 10 Zanu-PF Provinces had recommended Mnangagwa’s ouster

Apart from the Zanu-PF Youth League; Mashonaland West province, Bulawayo province , Mashonaland Central, Manicaland and Masvingo had recommended for Mnangagwa to be expelled for undermining President Robert Mugabe’s authority. The 5 provinces as well as Zanu-PF’s youth league had recommended for Grace Mugabe to be elevated to the post of Vice President.

4. More than 39 people risk being fired on allegations of being Mnangagwa’s allies

While the total number of people that have been recommended for expulsion by Zanu-PF’s Provincial Executive Councils is unknown, Manicaland Province has so far recommended the highest number-39. Ministers that risk losing their jobs are; Patrick Chinamasa, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Christopher Mushohwe, local government deputy minister, Christopher Chingosho as well as Win Mlambo who is deputy Minister of Information, Communication, Postal and Courier Services.

5. At one time Mnangagwa offered to resign

In August, weekly private publication, The Independent revealed that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa offered to tender his resignation. Mnangagwa reportedly cited the public humiliation and attacks from First Lady Grace Mugabe. He said that he did not want to respond to the public attacks out of respect for the first family.
