There was violence over the weekend in Seke, Chitungwiza Ward 23, as rival groups of Zanu-PF youths and MDC-T youths clashed. According to residents, the violence started when suspected Zanu PF youths took exception to the fact that MDC was mobilising people to register under the current Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) system in an area they considered to be their own turf. The Zanu-PF youths then attacked and vandalised a house belonging to a known MDC supporter.
The MDC supporters allegedly called for reinforcements from St Mary’s Chitungwiza and retaliated by stoning and vandalising a car belonging to the Ward 23 Councillor, Betty Dokora, wife to Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora. After vandalising the car, the youths made their getaway in a car which had been on standby. Members of Zanu-PF gave chase but were unable to catch the alleged vandals.
