Two kids die after being hit by speeding cars in separate accidents

A 3-year-old child and a 7-year old child died on Monday after being hit by speeding taxis in Bulawayo. The 3-year old child who was strapped to his mother’s back died after his mother was struck by a grey Honda Fit which was going against traffic on a one-way street. The child flew from the mother’s back headlong onto the road. The driver of the car did not stop but witnesses say his registration number was AEE 5226.

The 7-year old child was knocked down by an Expricos Taxi along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road around 5PM. The child was trying to cross the road to join her mother who was on the other side. The Chairperson of Expricos Taxis Mpumelelo Khumalo blamed the driver saying:

We heard how the accident occurred but we are blaming our driver. He could have been speeding. As we are talking the driver has been fired. He did not follow our policy that our drivers should always drive on the outer lane. And it’s clear in this accident he was not in the outer lane. We want to express our condolences to the affected family.
