Professor Moyo from Kwekwe appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzayi Dzumbira charged with registering an Econet line in Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) deputy director Aaron Nhepera’s name before asking Wicknell Chivayo for money to entertain visitors.
Moyo denied the charges and was remanded in custody to today for bail ruling. The State alleges that on March 2, 2011, Moyo registered an Econet line using Itayi Kangarawa’s identification numbers. He allegedly later registered the same line with Ecocash in Nhepera’s name.
He bought another Econet line and registered it again in Kangarawa’s name, but registered the EcoCash account in Ngoni Nyamasoka’s name. On September 9 this year, Moyo identified himself as CIO deputy director Nhepera when he called Chivayo asking for money to entertain visitors over the weekend. Chivayo then sought clarification from Nhepera, who denied calling him. Chivayo reported the matter to the police, leading to Moyo’s arrest.
