The High Court of Pretoria is expected to deliver its judgement on how first lady Grace Mugabe is supposed to be served with the legal papers. The application was made by model Gabriella Engels who is being represented by civil rights group Afriforum. Grace is alleged to have assaulted Engels using an extension cord on the 13 of August at a Sandton Hotel. However, she was granted diplomatic immunity by the South African government, so she could not be prosecuted.
Judge Harshila Kooverjile has to decide whether Grace can be served with the court papers at the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa or in person in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean embassy is arguing that it cannot accept the papers on Grace’s behalf. AfriForum lawyer Advocate Etienne Labuschagne is also arguing that it wants to serve Mugabe at the president’s office in Zimbabwe. However, Advocate Simba Chitando, for the embassy is arguing that Grace does not stay there.
