Mnangagwa blocks private journalists from covering press conference

Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa barred private journalists from covering a press conference on Thursday night. Only journalists from State owned media where allowed to cover the press conference.

Mnangagwa’s press conference comes after President Robert Mugabe challenged him to clarify his claims that he was poisoned. Mnangagwa made the claims on Saturday during a memorial service for the late national heroine, Shuvai Mahofa, where he implied that he was poisoned like she was during a Zanu-PF conference held in 2015 in Victoria Falls. While being received at Harare International Airport, Mugabe asked Mnangagwa if he had done a postmortem on the late national heroine to determine if she was poisoned or not. 

Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko who was acting president in Mugabe’s absence also issued a statement on Wednesday stating that Mnangagwa is lying that he was poisoned in order to destabilise the country and undermine President Robert Mugabe.
