Govt extends time for pensioners to register with NSSA
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Prisca Mupfumira said that pensioners can now register with the National Social Service Authority (NSSA) until the end of October.
Mupfumira was responding to Paurina Mpariwa who had asked what is Government policy regarding those that had not registered with NSSA. NSSA had initially set 30 September as the cut off date for pensioners to register with the new biometric system.
We are not saying we are closed but we have given them a cutoff point of the 30th September but it is up to them when they do not get their money, to approach us. We are open and it is also open to existing members who are contributing but those who are getting pensions and have not registered, with effect from 30 September, if they will not get their pensions this month. However, if you are not registered biometrically by the end of October, you are not getting your money and there is no going back.
FeedbackMupfumira said so far, over 170 000 people have registered and that when registration was closed, there were 27 000 outstanding. She however said the number of unregistered pensioners has reduced to 17 000.
