Govt to hire Botswana firm to value 1.3 million carats diamonds before they can be sold

Minister of Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa has revealed that the government is not selling diamonds because its evaluation system has been compromised. Instead, the government will hire a Botswana firm to evaluate at least 1,3 million carats which have been mined. Only then will the diamonds be sold. Addressing parliamentarians, Chidhakwa said:

The reason we have not been selling is because our systems for evaluation had been compromised. We have had to ask the Tswanas to come and they are coming in next week to assist us with the valuation of those diamonds and after that we will have a new system.
