RBZ Working On A New Law To Arrest Cash Dealers

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya has revealed that the central bank is working on a new law which will enable the police to arrest cash dealers and shut out the parallel market.

In an interview with daily publication, NewsDay, Mangudya said

Enough is enough. We have to take action against the parallel market operators. We are currently working on an instrument which we hope will help us deal with these black market dealers. I think that maybe we need to engage the police to make some arrests.

We have said it many times that there is a lot of market indiscipline. This is what is causing the panic buying in the shops because to us everything should be okay.

This comes after prices of basic goods shot up last weekend after the price of the United States dollar shot up on the black market as the bond note continues to weaken.
