Tsvangirai avoids naming acting president to avoid factional fights

Former prime minister and leader of the opposition MDC-T Morgan Tsvangirai has avoided naming any of his three deputies as the acting leader of the party. Tsvangirai is currently recovering after he was airlifted to South Africa when his health had deteriorated. Instead of naming an acting leader, Tsvangirai announced last Friday that his deputies Thokozani Khupe, Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri will be in charge of the party but only in their respective party portfolios. He is reportedly trying to avoid factional fighting within his party.

Announcing through his spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka, Tsvangirai said:

In the meantime, the three vice-presidents will continue to execute their assigned tasks to ensure consistent and uninterrupted leadership to the various party programmes currently taking place.
