Mugabe blames Zanu-PF officials for causing price hikes and shortages

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Harare International Airport, President Robert Mugabe accused unnamed Zanu-PF officials for causing price hikes and shortages so that people revolt against Government in his absence.

Said Mugabe:

Takanzwawo kuti zvinhu zvashota. Tinova neruzivo rwekuti pane vanenge vachida kuti zvinhu zvikanganisike, vanhu vomukira hurumende, isu tisipo. Asi vanhu vedu vakachenjera, havanyengerwi nemutowo iwoyo. Mapepa (cash) iwayo totadza kumawana kana ingava fuel yedzimota igonzi yashota? Ndauyaka, tichazvitarisa. Angave mashortages anganzi angatadzwa kugadziriswa in one day or two? Musanyanye kuchema henyu, kunoita ny’any’a pakati pedu, ndozvazvinoita. Tochenjera. Dzimwe nguva ndevaunonwa navo vanoda kuti zvinhu zvishate, asi tomira tese takabatana, tese tiri mugwara, tochiteerera gwara ratinokutungamirirai. (We heard that there are shortages. We know there are people who want the economy to collapse so that people revolt against the Government in our absence. But our people are intelligent they will never be fooled by such methods. Now that I am here we will look into the issue. Can they be shortages that cannot be fixed in a day or two? Do not be afraid, there are mischievous elements among us, that’s how it is. Let us be vigilant. At times these are the people you drink with that want things to go bad.)

While he was in the United States where he attended the 72nd Ordinary Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was the acting president.
