As BAZ tries to shutdown Kwese TV, TelOne applies for Broadcasting Licence

State owned telecommunications company TelOne has applied for a broadcasting licence in order to setup Video on Demand (VoD) services. The application has been submitted to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe. In a notice placed in the state owned daily newspaper The Herald, people have been invited to air their comments.

 

Part of the notice reads

Complete details of the application have been lodged with the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.

Any person who wishes to comment on the application may within fourteen days (14) of the date of publication, of this notice, contact the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, 27 Boscobel West Drive Highlands, Harare.Tel (04) 443 465-7, email: info@baz.co.zw .

This comes at a time when the BAZ is trying to cancel the broadcasting licence belonging to Kwese TV’s broadcasting partner Dr Dish. BAZ has since applied to the Supreme Court after High Court judge Justice Charles Hungwe granted a provisional order which allowed reversed an earlier decision by BAZ to cancel Dr Dish’s licence.
