SA announces new Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP), closes Zimbabwe Special Permit (ZSP)

South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize announced today that the Zimbabwe Special Permit (ZSP) will now be known as the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

She said that (ZEP) project will begin on 15 September 2017 and is open for valid ZSP permit-holders only. The ZEP permits will be issued for a maximum period of Four (4) years, effective from 01 January 2018 and expiring on 31 December 2021, notwithstanding the date of application. Thereafter applicants will be allocated appointments for the required submission of fingerprints and supporting documents to VFS, from 01 October 2017.

ZSP holders are expected to submit their applications before 30 November 2017 and they can submit their applications online, from 15 September 2017, through the VFS website: www.vfsglobal.com/ZEP/SouthAfrica/com

Mkhize said that applicants will be required to pay an administrative fee of R1090 and will be required to submit the following:

    • A valid Zimbabwean passport.
    • Evidence of employment – in the case of an application for work rights.
    • Evidence of business – in the case of an application for business rights.
    • Evidence of an admission letter from a recognised learning institution –in the case of an application for study rights.

  1. hi..but the minister said renounced lately that even those without ZSP can now apply for ZEP,please correct me if I misunderstood

  2. i am a zimbabwean who had been in sa for more than 16 years.currently i dont have legal documents to be in SA.i was using refugee papers but my status was rejected despite valid reason which i gave SA officers that i can be killed if i go back to zim and i can be given death sentence for the political cooked up charges of murder.i need help
