Joice Mujuru to hold 'pungwe' rallies as she campaigns for 2018 elections

Former vice-president and leader of the opposition National People’s Party Joice Mujuru will be launching night rallies, also known as pungwes as she tries to drum up support for her 2018 presidential bid. The pungwes date back to the Second Chimurenga freedom fighters used to interact with and mobilise the rural population. NPP secretary-general Gift Nyandoro said:

It is a roller-coaster programme that is done on a daily basis. The aim is for the president to address every single of the 1 958 wards in Zimbabwe before 2018 elections.

Among other important messages is that she is encouraging Zimbabweans to register in the voter registration exercise and to avoid voter apathy because Zimbabweans owe it to themselves to liberate the country from Mugabe hegemony. Remember she is a guerrilla and a war vet.
