‘We are against Zodwa WaBantu’s participation at this year’s carnival’, Censorship Board backs Zhuwao

The Censorship Board of Zimbabwe has reached a decision to uphold acting Tourism Minister Patrick Zhuwao’s decision to ban South African socialite Zodwa Wabantu from performing at the Harare International Carnival after a complaint was filed by actress Anne Nhira.

Addressing censorship board members, the group’s board chairperson Aeneas Chigwedere said that they were against Zodwa’s participation at this year’s edition of the carnival. He cited Zodwa’s dressing which many have argued is nothing compared to the Brazilian Samba Dancers’ outfits. Said Chigwedere:

Zodwa WaBantu’s dressing is a travesty of our culture. We are against Zodwa WaBantu’s participation at this year’s carnival.

However, Zodwa Wabantu is expected to perform in Harare next week despite the ban.
