Zanu-PF activist jailed 6 years for attacking people who refused to attend rally

Zanu PF activist, Dunmore Mapfumo was sentenced to six years by Harare regional magistrate Elijar Makomo who found him guilty of attempted murder,  assaulting police officers and resisting arrest.

He will, however, serve an effective four-and-a-half-year jail term after Makomo suspended one and a half years on condition of good behaviour. The court heard that on April 2 this year at around midday, Mapfumo struck Osman Chakaoma on  the stomach with a log for not attended a Zanu PF meeting which was being held in the neighbourhood because he was finishing his work. Together with his accomplices, Mapfumo stole Chakaoma’s cellphone and $135 cash.

After the assault, Chakaoma proceeded to Epworth Police Station and lodged a report. After assaulting Chakaoma, Mapfumo and his accomplices met Jani Mukwati, whom they also attacked, citing the same reason.
