High Court orders minister to stop investigating Fortune Charumbira’s contested chieftainship

High Court judge Justice David Mangota ordered Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage minister Abednego Ncube to stop investigating Fortune Charumbira’s contested chieftainship.

The ruling comes after Charumbira filed an urgent chamber application in May seeking to bar the ministry’s investigative team, led by Fanuel Mkwaira. In his application he argued that the investigation is not necessary since the chieftainship of the Charumbiras has been settled over several years and 17 years into his tenure as Chief Charumbira. He also argued that the investigation would only save to undermine his dignity and integrity.
