Police turn down NERA's request to hold demo against SA for granting Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has turned down a request by the National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA) to hold a demo at the South African Embassy against the granting of diplomatic immunity to Grace Mugabe, which allowed her to return to Zimbabwe despite being accused of assaulting South African model Gabriella Engels (20). NERA had scheduled the demo to take place on Wednesday 30 August.

The police state that NERA did not comply with the provisions of Section 23(1)(a) 23(2) and 25(2) of the Public Order and Security Act Chapter 11:17. However, Zanu-PF will hold a solidarity rally for Grace Mugabe on the same day at its headquarters in Harare.

Civil rights group AfriForum has already filed a court application at the Pretoria High Court challenging the government’s decision to grant her immunity (READ STORY HERE). The Democratic Alliance has also filed a Constitutional Court challenging the granting of the immunity.
