Morris Njenje (35) of Gwanda was sentenced to seven months in prison by Plumtree magistrate, Joshua Mawere for stealing beer worth $6 from a supermarket. He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the theft. One month was for the theft of beer, while the other six months were added from a prior conviction.
The public prosecutor said:
On 15 August around 1PM Mr Ndabezinhle Bhebhe was on duty at Greens Supermarket where he works as a security guard. Njenje walked towards the exit door holding six by 340 millilitres of Castle Lite beer.
Mr Bhebhe asked Njenje to produce a receipt to prove that he had bought the beer but instead he promised to give the security guard $3 if he left him go.
