Chombo & Kasukuwere in Angola to observe elections

Ignatius Chombo and Saviour Kasukuwere are in Angola where they expected to observe the elections which will be held today.

This was revealed by Zanu-PF acting chairman for Mashonaland Central Province Dickson Mafios while announcing the burial date for George Rutanhire. Said Mafios:

Cde Chombo called me saying he has been asked to go to Angola together with Cde Kasukuwere to observe elections there over the weekend so they are leaving today (Tuesday). Their schedule could not allow them to come here so he said I should convey his message from President Mugabe that Cde Rutanhire has been declared a national hero.

For the first time in 38 years, Angolans will have a new president after Jose Eduardo dos Santos announced in December 2016, that he would not seek re-election and, in his place, João Lourenço, Angola’s defense minister, has been chosen by the ruling People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) to seek the presidency. Other candidates include Isaías Henrique Ngola Samakuva, head of the main opposition UNITA party, and Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku of CASA-CE. Angolan officials declined to sign an MOU with European Union election observers, while noting that their only obligations are to the African Union and Southern African Development Community.
