Zimbabwe to host 2021 chess world cup

Officially opening the youth camp for 40 athletes who will be trained on life skills throughout the national youth games currently underway in Matabeleland North Province, Sports Minister Makhosini Hlongwane revealed that Zimbabwe will host the 2021 chess world cup which will be held in Victoria Falls.

World Chess Federation president, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (surname pronounced as Yamuzhino) who is in Zimbabwe from Russia, will donate money and equipment for the development of chess in local schools and an agreement is expected to be signed in Harare. Also a minimum of five scholarships will be availed to Zimbabwean students who wish to study chess in Moscow, Russia every year. Ilyumzhinov said Zimbabwe will also organise Chess Olympiad to be hosted in 2022.
