Addressing a meeting organised by the Zimbabwe National War Veterans Association Bulawayo Province at their Entumbane offices yesterday, War Veterans Minister, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube said Government is working on increasing the monthly allowances of war veterans from $200 to $500.
Dube also said that they had agreed to raise the funds for assistance for burial of a war veteran from $800 to $2 000. Said Dube:
The pension you are getting is too little. We are advocating that it be increased to at least $500 which will enable you to get a little more than you are getting now. We know the $500 is also not enough but it will go a long way as some of you are getting just over $100 each month. It has been agreed that the funds for the assistance for burial of a war veteran be increased from $800 to $2 000 so that burial is done in a proper manner. This has already been agreed upon and will start immediately.
