Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) secretary-general Victor Matemadanda was remanded in custody to today after he appeared before Magistrate Elisha Singano accused of undermining the authority of the President and causing disaffection among members of the defence forces.
Singano dismissed Matemadanda’s application for release on the basis that he had been detained for more than 48 hours. Singano also refused to recuse himself from the matter. Prosecutor Ms Francesca Mukumbiri successfully applied to have Matemadanda further detained by the police on the basis that there were investigations to be conducted in Gokwe. The application was opposed by Matemadanda’s lawyer, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa. Matemadanda’s bail hearing is set for today.
