First Lady Grace Mugabe who was supposed to appear at the Wynburg Magistrate’s Court on allegations of assaulting model Gabriella Engels (20), failed to turn up for court as she had previously agreed with the authorities. According to EWN Reporter, Grace Mugabe failed to honour an agreement to hand herself over at 10 am. Grace had not been placed under arrest as South African Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said that she had been cooperating with the authorities and was supposed to appear at Wynburg Magistrates’ Court. However, it later turned out that Grace Mugabe was actually supposed to appear at Randburg Magistrate’s Court after the prosecutor in charge at Wynburg said the crime had not occured in his jurisdiction. Journalists and ordinary citizens ended up covering both courts waiting for Grace to make an appearance.
After she failed to attend court the South African Police Service (SAPS) disputed Minister Mbalula’s version that she had handed herself over to the police at any point. Unconfirmed reports say that there is a warrant of arrest out for her.
