Bogus police officers skip bail after attempting to extort commuter omnibus

Former Harare City footballer Misheck Mburayi and his alleged accomplice, Muneishe Mazarire, are on the run after skipping a court appearance on Friday. The two are facing charges of attempted robbery and impersonating a police officer. The pair were released on $50 bail at the High Court last month.

Mburayi and Mazarire were arrested in June this year together with 4 accomplices after they stormed an illegal commuter rank armed with metal spikes and a “police fines ticket book.” They ordered the driver to head towards Harare Central Station but their luck ran out when the driver demanded to see their identification cards. When they failed to do so, rank marshalls effected a citizen’s arrest.

police uniforms and 20 copies of traffic police fines forms were recovered at Mazarire’s residence.
