Speaking during the Zanu-PF Youth Interface Rally held this afternoon in Matebeleland South Province, President Mugabe revealed that First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe is in South Africa to have her foot examined after she was injured at the airport in a freak accident recently.
In July, Grace Mugabe had what George Charamba described as a freak accident at the Harare International Airport soon after arrival from Singapore where President Robert Mugabe had gone for medical attention. Charamba said Grace suffered some soft tissue bruising on the right ankle as a result. At the time she was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for the bruises and discharged but complained of pain from the hurt ankle.
A week later, while speaking at her sister Mrs Junior Gumbochuma’s birthday, Grace recounted the accident and thanked God that she still could walk. She said:
Ndakatsikwa zvechokwadi nemotikari, makazongonzwa iri story, but ndakatsikwa zvechokwadi ndakambonzwa vanhu vachiti ndakambotsikwa nemota ndikamuka, it is a miracle kuti ndirikufamba. Zvakaitika. Saka ndozvandanga ndichiti ukanamata dzimwe nguwa unorwirwa. Kune vanosandudzira mhepo, mweya yerudzi. All that we must pray so that Mwari anenge anewe. That day ndakawona ruwoko rwaMwari.
However, Grace Mugabe’s trip to South Africa may not be to have her foot examined as Robert Mugabe said as their sons Robert Jr and Chatunga Mugabe live there. In July, the two boys were evicted from their luxurious apartment in Sandton, Johannesburg after a violent brawl occurred at their apartment and left a security officer nursing a broken arm and leg. The two boys were staying in Morningside Sandton, Johannesburg’s wealthiest area and their apartment reportedly cost R74 000 per month in rent. Robert Jr is reported to have relocated to South Africa after running foul of the law in Dubai.
Speaking at her sister, Junior Gumbochuma’s, birthday party in Shamva on Grace attributed her sons’ bad behaviour to evil spirits. She said:
Nowadays there are spirits attacking our children. The spirit of drinking, drug abuse and doing other abnormal things way beyond their age.
