Warriors CHAN hopes alive as Swazi referees suspended for allowing controversial penalty to stand

Swazi referees Thulani Sibandze and Petros Mbingo were suspended by the Confederation of African Football for allowing an illegitimate penalty to stand and knock the Warriors out of the CHAN tournament in a match played at the National Sports Stadium last month.

The Herald states that ZIFA stands a chance to successfully appeal for a replay following the suspension of the two referees even though FIFA regulations say that a referee’s decision is final in the determination of a match. Robson Sharuko argue that FIFA’s statutes do not classify penalty shoot-out as being part of the game. He cites that on September 6, 2006 a FIFA World Cup qualifier between Uzbekistan and Bahrain on September 3, 2005 was replayed after it was declared invalid.
