National herd increases by 4%

According to the latest Crop and Livestock Assessment report issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, the national herd has increased by 4% during the 2016/ 2017 cattle production season.

68% of the herd is from the communal sector, 11% from the A1, 7% from old resettlement areas. Small-scale commercial farmers have contributed 4% while large-scale commercial farmers contributed 10%. While herds for other provinces were on the increase; Midlands had a 5% decline from 763 794 to 728 564.
