Chombo files urgent chamber application to block his arrest

Through the director of the civil division, Fortune Chimbaru, Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo on Monday filed an urgent chamber application to block his address. In the application, Chombo cited the sheriff, Mangwiro and his lawyers Shelliton Mahuni and Valentine Mutatu as respondents.

Chombo denies the contempt of court charges against him and argues that he complied with the court order to give Mutare businessman Tendai Blessing Mangwiro his $1,5 million and $78 900 which was separately confiscated by police in 2008. Chombo says he wrote to Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa in November last year demanding the release of Mangwiro’s money. The application is set to be heard today.
