Dull students should stay away from activism: Arthur Mutambara

Former Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara has urged student activists who do not excel in their studies to stay away from activism and concentrate on their studies instead. Mutambara described these students as dull while launching his book “In Search of the Elusive Zimbabwean Dream: An Autobiography of Thought Leadership (Volume One)” in Mutare. He also urged locals to document their own histories rather than waiting for foreigners to become authorities on Zimbabwean history.

Said Mutambara:

Don’t just make noise but also excel in your studies; if you don’t have the brains for academia stay out of activism.

It’s embarrassing that Zimbabweans have a very limited written history about their culture and ways. Locals should document their family history and not let foreigners to be authorities on locals’ history.

Let us craft our own history so that we become authorities on the history of Africa. We must be masters of our own narratives.
