Human trafficking victims to receive $1 500 to start projects

The government will be giving victims of human trafficking who were repatriated from Kuwait up to $1 500 for self sustaining projects to try to reduce the chances of the same people being trafficked again. An estimated 200 women are reported to have been stranded in Kuwait after falling victim to human trafficking victims. So far, at least 128 women have been rescued and returned to the country and more women are still expected.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Ngoni Masoka told parliament:

It is worth mentioning that more women are still expected to come as more awareness is raised with the support of the Zimbabwean Embassy in Kuwait.

The first hundred returnees have submitted project proposals that will be funded to a maximum of 1,500 dollars each to start income generating projects.
