ZEC reveals why it allocated fewer voter registration centres in MDC-T "strongholds"

Responding to queries by MDC-T director of elections Mr Murisi Zwizwai on why the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had allocated fewer registration centres in Bulawayo and Harare which are perceived to be the opposition party’s strongholds, Rita Makarau said that they were allocated using the delimitation exercise carried out in 2007-2008.

Makarau said ZEC will only consider increasing the numbers if MDC-T provides compelling reasons. Makarau:

The number of polling stations will be determined by the voter registration exercise. The number of voter registration centres was mainly determined using the delimitation exercise carried out in 2007-2008. We will accept your representations in writing as long as they are based on facts, objective and scientific reasoning. You should tell us why we should increase registration centres in one province and where we will reduce the centres given the number of kits available.
