IMF says funding of Command Agriculture is unclear

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said that it does not yet have a correct position on Command Agriculture as the funding of the program was unclear at the moment. IMF mission chief on Zimbabwe, Ana Lucia Coronel, also said that the program was not necessarily targeting people who could not finance themselves.

Said Coronel

In some of our discussions with authorities we have noted that some of this command programmes were not in the budget, so there is not enough clear financing for them and that produces a challenge. Also, they are not necessarily targeted to the people who do not have other sources of support so we are concerned increasing support to sectors from a government that is still facing a deficit in its account

The government is buying Command Agriculture maize for $390/tonne which is more than double the world price.
