Man burns children to death after argument with wife

Fashion Mupakati (44) from Chipinge is on the run after he allegedly locked his three children in a hut before setting it on fire. Two of the children died in the inferno while the older child sustained serious burns and has been admitted at  Birchenough Bridge District Hospital. Mupakati allegedly committed the act after a dispute with his wife, Precious Kadumbu, who later on left the couple’s home for an unknown destination.

One of his neighbours saw the hut burning and tried to open it but was unable to because it was locked.  She called other villagers to help to put out the fire.  The villagers were only able to save the older daughter, although she was severely burned.  They were too late for the other children.  Mupakati is alleged to have told his sister-in-law over the phone, that he was going to commit suicide.

Deputy provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxon Chananda said:
