Hillside Teachers’ College students lock lecturers out of their offices in protest

Hillside Teachers’ College first year students barricaded the lecturers’ offices and shut the college’s clinic in protest claiming that the college was forcing them to subscribe to Corporate24 Medical Aid Society, which is failing to pay for their treatment when they fell ill.

The protest ended when Hillside Teachers’ College principal Mr Edward Gumpo addressed the students. The students had also threatened to boycott writing acquittal examinations which started on Monday. Neither Gumpo nor Corporate24 Medical Aid Society was available for comment when contacted by The Chronicle.
