Speaking at the launch of his Presidential candidature, Dr Nkosana Moyo urged the people of Matabeleland to allow him to focus on building for the future rather than looking back into the past over what happened during the Gukurahundi Massacres. Said Nkomo:
It is my humble opinion without in any shape or form diminishing or devaluing the pain of the people of Matabeleland, my appeal is that I would want you to ask me to build a better Zimbabwe.
I do not want you to ask me to reconstruct a past Zimbabwe,
Because every day I spend trying to rebuild the past, is the day you deprive yourselves and me demonstrating that a different Zimbabwe is possible. I know that some people disagree with this approach, but I think if you start driving yourself into remaking the past you have no time left to build and demonstrate that something different and beautiful can be possible.
