Renowned economist and former Minister of Industry and International Trade Dr Nkosana Moyo will be running for President in next year’s harmonised elections. Dr Moyo made the announcement at a press conference which was held at the Meikles Hotel in Harare today. He will be the presidential candidate for his party Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA). This ends months of speculation on whether the former Cabinet minister was going to go against President Mugabe.
Announcing his candidature, Dr Moyo said
I must heed the call to run for President of Zimbabwe…a call from diverse Zimbabweans.
He also dismissed the issue of sanctions having destroyed Zimbabwe’s economy saying:
We are what we are becacuse of what has been done to our people by our own system.
Dr Nkosana Moyo also denied that he was ever a member of Zanu-PF. Even though he was appointed a Cabinet Minister, he remained independent and later on quit his post. He says that he resigned from a government that was doing wrong.
