Pastor Evan Mawarire to be tried at High Court, trial to start in September

This Flag founder, Pastor Evan Mawarire will face charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government at the High Court after Harare Magistrate Barbra Chimbodza formerly indicted him yesterday. However, Pastor Evan, through his lawyers Harrison Nkomo and Gift Mtisi, wants the case referred to the Constitutional Court. He is arguing that he did not commit any crime by protesting against the government.

The state alleges that Mawarire incited the people to revolt against President Robert Mugabe by calling for demonstrations last year. Pastor Evan is also facing charges of organising demonstrations against Mugabe at a United Nations general assembly meeting in New York in a bid to end the Zanu PF leader’s rule illegally.
