RBZ to crackdown on fuel operators forcing customers to use cash

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development on Monday that the central bank will crackdown on fuel operators refusing to accept plastic money. Mangudya told the committee:

It is sad to hear that some of the fuel operators are still refusing to accept plastic money yet none of them export the fuel. I can assure you we will look into it and send people to investigate if need be.

This follows reports of service stations insisting on cash and turning away customers who want to use plastic money. The fuel operators are alleged to use the excuse of network challenges or broken down point of sale machines.
