Tapiwa Vhutani (27) of Kumboedza Farm in Kadoma was arrested for attempting to sell his eight year old daughter for $12 000 to businessman Obert Juru for a ritual killing. He appeared before Magistrate Winfilda Tiyatara at Chivhu Magistrate Court last week and was remanded in custody to Tuesday 13 June.
Vhutani is facing allegations of “conspiracy to commit murder”, contravening Section 188 (1) (b) as read with section 47 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, chapter 9:23. The court heard that on 27 March 2017 Vhutani sent a text message to Obert Juru asking him if he was willing to buy children for ritual purposes. On May 27, Vhutani was trapped by members of Chivhu Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who had been tipped by Juru.
