Lawyer files another Con Court lawsuit to stop biometric voter registration

Law expert Alfred Mavedzenge has filed another lawsuit at the Constitutional Court seeking to bar the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) from conducting the biometric voter registration.

Mavedzenge had filed a challenge seeking an order to declare section 192 (6) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) unconstitutional because it gives Justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa power to  to approve or disapprove regulations or statutory instruments developed by Zec. In his second application, Mavedzenge sought an order to bar Zec from using the provisions of the Electoral Act until his first application has been heard. The application is expected to be heard this week.
