Lawyer arrested in court for practising without a license

Macleen Mahaso a Harare lawyer, was arrested at the magistrate’s court after it was discovered that he did not have a valid practising certificate as it had expired in December. He is expected to appear in court facing charges of contravening the Legal Practitioners’ Act. The Law of Society of Zimbabwe in a statement said:

Mahaso is not licensed to practice law in Zimbabwe and to have access to police stations, prisons and all courts

Mahaso had gone to court to apply for bail on behalf of his client, Tsungai Mazani, who is facing charges of theft of trust property worth $59 000.

Mazani who is a Zimbabwe National Army officer is still in custody. He is yet to know his fate as his case was being handled by an unlicensed lawyer.
