Knowledge Musona named Warriors captain

Interim Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has named striker Knowledge Musona as the team’s captain for the coming 2019 AFCON qualifier against Liberia at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday. Musona replaces Willard Katsande, who was not called up for the match amid speculation that he and three others were banned from playing for the Warriors by Zifa President Phillip Chiyangwa for allegedly leading the boycott of a farewell dinner.  The other three are former vice-captain Cuthbert Malajila, Nyasha Mushekwi and Matthew Rusike.

Said Musona:

It is an honour to represent your country. It was rather a surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting it.

It is not an individual thing to lead the national team, but everyone is a leader and it is more about teamwork than anything else.
